VOICE LESSONS * PIANO LESSONS * AUDITION PREPARATION
Congratulations on taking your first step towards achieving your musical goals!
I offer private voice lessons to students of all singing levels ages 9-adult, as well as beginning piano lessons to all ages. In addition to earning my Bachelor and Master of Music from the prestigious San Francisco Conservatory of Music, I have real world experience living and working as a performing artist on the West Coast, New York City, and in Europe. My 20+ years of performing experience include numerous concerts at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center with the New York Philharmonic and Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, operatic performances in the USA and in Europe, and musical theater productions, most recently in Ohio.
Whether you are a parent looking for a beginning piano teacher for your child, an adult who has always wanted to take music lessons, or a teenager preparing for college auditions, I will work with you to determine the right course for you or your child! I believe it is important that music lessons be fun and creative as well as challenging to the individual.
I have taught privately in home and at music schools in California, New York City, and Cincinnati. I teach not only in the style of classical music, but of pop, jazz, and country as well. Currently, I am teaching in the Greater Cincinnati area. My studio is in Mariemont, but I also teach in-home to a limited number of students.
Am I the right teacher for you?
WHAT I LOOK FOR IN PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS:
First, and foremost, I look for students with a desire to explore and create through music. I focus on teaching a healthy and natural technique in several genres of music including classical, opera, pop, country, and musical theater.
Aspiring singers and performers
Holding both a Bachelor and Master of Music in Vocal Performance, I have a sound technique and deep understanding of the singing mechanisms. It is my goal to help students acquire fine singing skills, as well as give them the tools to monitor their own technique and practice self-sufficiency. I believe a truly good teacher empowers the student to teach him or herself.
In addition to proper technique, I stress an equal amount of importance on performance presentation and interpretation. After all, in the end, we want to entertain and to move an audience. This is accomplished by hard study and character development, whether in a role or just in a song.
Audition and Performance Coaching
I understand it is not always possible to commit long term to music lessons. However, we all know how important it is that we make the right impression in that audition, or thrill the audience in that upcoming performance. I do not ask you to sign a long term contract, so YOU determine what your needs are and I will work with you to make sure that you’re absolutely prepared! I have extensive experience auditioning and performing and have some easy tactics that can help you really nail your pieces!
For the more serious teenager or young adult looking at pursuing a college career in voice or musical theater- There’s a lot of work that goes into getting ready for college auditions! Musical repertoire, monologues, theory training…these are all things for which one needs to prepare. I will work with you to find the best repertoire and coach you to perform at your utmost ability so you have a shot at getting into your college or university of choice. There’s some tough competition out there, so you want to get as far ahead of the game as possible!
Adults who have always wanted to study singing or piano
It’s never too late to start! I LOVE working with adults who have decided to finally fulfill their lifelong wish to play an instrument or to learn how to sing. I find them to be the most passionate and most committed to growing and expressing through music. Don’t be afraid…take the leap!
Parents of children wishing them to begin music studies
It is scientifically proven that music training not only helps children develop fine motor skills, but aids emotional and behavioral maturation as well. I have seen children who can barely bring themselves to sit still for 30 seconds, be able to focus intently and perform under intense pressure. I have encountered children who have a hard time speaking out loud come out of their shell while listening to Mozart and Beethoven and Schumann. I have taught using the Faber Method Books, Alfred Method Books, and also a unique Russian method of piano instruction in which I provided stories and games for younger students and metaphors for adults in order to help them understand the meaning of music. My goal is to share the joy of music through finding what speaks to each child individually. After all, everyone is different, and not every person responds to a particular method.
